[General] Green Party Co-Leader Dies

I'm shocked to hear that Rod Donald died of a heart attack last night. He was, I think, the most reasonable man in parliament and his death has dealt a blow to the Green Party. I had the pleasure to speak with him on the phone on two occasions and found him endearingly jocular and, basically, a decent man.

Considering how she gave the Greens the flick, I think it's a bit rich that Helen Clark on National Radio said parliament needed more politicians like Mr Donald.

Perhaps the most decent current politician in New Zealand is gone. And we are all the worse for it.

Helen Clark was right though. If there were more Rod Donald's she wouldn't have had to join with Winston.

Just another quick note to say that the Beehive flag is NOT at half mast!

Maybe it's just for heads of state but seeing as Rod Donald was a sitting MP that they might make an exception.

He did something incredibly difficult: he gave politicians a good name.
